Freaking out about Sci-fi & Moives

Blender Open Film Project Durian

This is the trailor for Blender 3rd film project codename Project Durian.

Most of the work is now done on the film and the team that are left are just finishing off a few things a cleaning up the film. So with any luck the film should be realised around September time.

The last two film project really showed off what Blender can do. No doubt this will be the same.

If you have not seen the frist two movies then here they are.

First up is Elephants Dream, this is a sureal film but it does show what blender could do. this film was done back in 2006.

Next is Big Buck Bunny This is the second film relaised 2008.
This reminds me alot of the classic Warner Brothers & MGM cartoons that are no longer made. It captuers the sprit of those old cartoons.

  1. Elephants Dream was too bizarre for me. I love the animation but I couldn’t get into the story. I only made it through a few minutes before I moved onto something else.

Big Buck Bunny, on the other hand, was pretty funny and cute. It definitely had a classic cartoon feel to it and the animation is top-notch. The fur and feathers, which I know were focuses of the project, looked at least as good as any done with proprietary software. In fact, the whole thing looks as high quality as anything done by a big studio.

That new one looks cool, I’ll have to try it out when it is released.

BTW, you forgot Yo Frakie!, which highlights not only Blender’s rendering but also its game engine: http://www.yofrankie.org/ It’s challenging, fun and bizarre all at the same time.
