Freaking out about Sci-fi & Moives

Total Recall Full Trailer

Here is the full trailer for the remake of Total Recall.

I have done a little bit of looking into this file and found that unlike the book and the film stating Arnie. This film with have nothing to do with Mars.

Here is the Plot Synopsis: Euroamerica (formerly the North America and the European Union) and New Shanghai (formerly China and South East Asia) fight for political power in the far dystopian future in the year 2084. A simple factory worker suffering from violent nightmares (Farrell) begins to suspect that he’s a spy whose memory and personality were erased and replaced — though he is unaware which side of the fight he’s on and how important his lost memories will be in its outcome.[citation needed] What matters to him the most is that he must team up with a young female freedom fighter (Biel) in order for both of them to change the political system in their own country, Euroamerica, which is currently controlled by Euroamerican President Vilos Cohaagen (Cranston) and his government that rules with extreme austerity.

  1. I don’t know, man. It looks like it could be decent, but I’m not exactly getting goosebumps or anything. How do you top Paul Verhoeven’s original film? Also, why drop Mars from the thing altogether? That’s odd, IMO. Plus, the original was the last big Sci-Fi film done with absolutely no CGI. The new one looks like another CGI fest, which seems to be the hot ticket right now, for some reason. Truth be told, it looks like just another remake to me. Could be good, could be bad. I’ll probably see it eventually, but I’m in no rush.

  2. Yeah it really does not make me go WOW!
I have not idea why they have dropped Mars seeing as it plays a big part in the story and original film.

Well CGI can be cheap, but as Ridely Scott said, if it can be done be done on set, do it on set.
I have to agree with that. It can also be a lot cheaper to do, than doing CG.

    • The remake just looks too much like a remake to me, even without Mars, that’s why I’m not going WOW. Too many of the parts in the trailer were clearly taken from the previous film. I don’t see the point in doing a remake on a 20-year-old film, especially a classic like Total Recall. It’s just the search for more money, I guess.

I like directors like Ridley Scott. JJ Abrams is another director that is that way. (there are others, those are two I could think of off the top of my head) If they can do something with actors on a set, they’ll do it. They use CGI when it’s absolutely necessary, not as a crutch because they were too lazy to do it real. Plus, like you said, CGI is still more expensive. It may be easier (it’s hard to say) but it’s more expensive.
